Rare and sacred arts need preserving sustainably in order they will not face extinction. However, many preservation endeavors are considered less maximal in Badung regency. Even, art practitioner from Blahkiuh, Badung, I Wayan Swardaniyasa judged the preservation of ancient arts was considered to be suspended animation.
Related institution, namely the Badung Cultural Services should performed counseling more intensively toward the rare and sacred arts. The arts that were almost extinct should be maintained by young generation to avoid the loss of traces as ancestral heritage. Cultural Performance that became regular program of Badung Regency denoted a positive endeavor to art troupes. However, the maintenance of rare arts should get more serious attention. “Do not only think about art festival that only serves as temporary movement,” said Swardaniyasa who is also the Second Head of Listibiya of Badung regency, last Tuesday (Nov 16).
He expected the measures taken during the New Order government should be resumed today and in the future. In the past, Swardaniyasa said, rare and sacred arts were thoroughly maintained. Every year, they got attention so the arts that were almost extinct could revive. Those arts consisted of Gong Luwang, Gambang, Saron, Gong Suling, Gambuh, Mabuang Dance, Wayang Wong, Telek, Baris Panah and Baris Paku. More than that, Calonarang, Cupak and Basur also got similar attention. Having got maintenance, they were performed at Bali Arts Festival (BAF) to represent Badung regency. They were very prideful. However, today it was nearly invisible.
Swardaniyasa added, not only performing arts, sacred arts having close relation to ritual procession of Hindu got similar attention. This kind of art almostcame into extinction. Due to less preservation, there was not regeneration. “We are as artists expected government to give intensive measure to save these art heritages. Do not let the Rewang dance in South Kuta come to extinction. No one knew its movement, gamelan and so forth. Similarly, Gong Luwang, Saron and Gambang of Badung should get serious attantion. Do not let them leave a memory. Therefore, documentation of those arts should be performed in other they would not lose from the art treasures of Badung Regency. Ultimately, we expect that the Association of Badung Artists could think of its preservation,” said Swardaniyasa.
To preserve such traditional art, the professor of Indonesia Institute of Arts (ISI) Denpasar, Prof. Dr. Wayan Dibia, said that government should give a space and time to perform those arts. By doing so, automatically of there would be a maintenance and conservation of those traditional arts. Prof. Dibis added that classical art was one of the trees of performing arts. To harvest its good flower and fruit, the tree should be looked after well by watering and fertilizing it. In order words, in order to be able to develop and create new arts, classical arts should be maintained continuously.
