After admitting Robert Lochner (40), a New Zealand national, last Wednesday (July 8), Sanglah General Hospital on Friday (July 10) again received two more suspected H1N1 sufferers.
Dr. Agus Somia, head of the hospital’s H1N1 treatment team, confirmed on Saturday that an American identified by his initials as MP (19) and an Indonesian national, RI, were taken to the hospital on Friday.
“the two H1N1 suspects are currently receiving intensive treatment at the Nusa Indah Isolation room, Sanglah Hospital, in Denpasar,” he said.
The two patients’ symptoms were high fever, coughing and flu, he said.
Their health condition was improving but they had to stay in the hospital until the hospital gets the results of laboratory tests from the Jakarta health development and research institute.
“In general, the patients’ condition has very much improved, but they are still receving medical treatment until their infectious period is over, while waiting for the laboratory test’s results,” he said.
“Currently, Sanglah Hospital is treating three H1N1 suspects comprising two foreigners and one Indonesian from Jakarta,” he said.
Earlier, on July 5, eight foreign tourists suspected of contracting Influenza A (H1N1) or swine flu cases in Indonesia increased by 24 recently bringing the total number of sufferers in the country to 52, Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari said in Jakarta, on Thursday (July 9).
Of the 24 new cases, three involve foreigners, and the rest Indonesian nationals, who mostly had made overseas trips recently, namely to Malaysia, Australia, the United States, Thailand, Singapore and China, she said. Only two patients were not known how they had contracted the virus.
Placing CCTV to monitor patients.
With increasing number of Swine Flu suspects in Sanglah hospital, it planed to place CCTV in Nusa Indah isolation room in order to observe the swine flu patients in the room. I Gusti Lanang Suartana, the head of Medical Service in Sanglah Hospital, said that the CCTV also to anticipate the infection spread from the patient to the doctor or medical staff and to prevent the patient from running away.
“Everyone could be infected with the virus including the reporter so we will conduct the preventive actions,” he added. Suartana also explained that even if the medical staffs already use safety clothes but there is still possibility that they infected with the swine flu virus.
Several cameras will be placed soon in several areas in Nusa Indah isolation room. He said “the hospital already has the equipment and the man power to operate the CCTV, the placement will be done as soon as possible.”
Currently, Sanglah hospital treated three patients in Nusa Indah room. They are Richard Lochner from New Zealand had been declared positive suffering from swine flu and Michael Partin from United States and an Indonesian citizen still waiting for the test result.
Both of them were showing the symptoms of swine flu sufferer. Suartana urged the people in Bali to be more aware of the spread of the disease. The local could also infect by the virus because many of them blend with tourists from throughout the world.
