Denpasar – The people around Denpasar area produced approximately 75,000 cubic meters of garbage every month or 1 million cubic meters every year. I Ketut Wisada, the head of Denpasar Hygiene Department, said “Most of the garbage is coming from household remains and leftovers from markets and factories in the area. Every day there are 2,500 cubic meters of garbage, which is almost the same as other major cities in Indonesia.”
The amount of garbage in Bali increased in the last two years, where originally there were 2,000 cubic meters of garbage every day. That is because more people are living in the area. Wisada explained that all of the garbage is transported to the garbage disposal in Suwung.
To handle the sanitation in Denpasar area, Denpasar Government employed 1,753 officers and is using 38 trucks to transports garbage from markets and residential areas to Suwung. Each trucks must travel at least four times in order to carry all the garbage to the disposal area. The hard work is needed to keep Denpasar as clean and hygienic as possible.
