Denpasar – Two new tourist markets and a street market will soon be built in two districts in Bali in a bid to attract more tourists to Indonesia’s paradise island.
“The central government has allocated funds for Bali province to revitalize two traditional markets and a street market,” provincial Medium and Small Cooperative Business chief I Wayan Dendres said here on Thursday.
He said the funds were from 2009 stimulus funds which were disbursed for Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Ministry for traditional markets revitalization.
According to Dendres, he has proposed two traditional markets and a street market to be revitalized and to be reordered to make them even better.
“We find that the two traditional markets have potential to be developed like Sukawati Art Market,” Dendres said, refferring to traditional markets in Karangasem and Bangli districts, and a street market in Bangli district.
He expressed hope that the revitalization of those traditional markets would revive the economy at the two districts which are frequently visited by foreign tourists.
“When the revitalization is completed, we believe more foreign tourists will visit the two districts,” Dendres said.
